Our History

The Mandylights concept was conceived in early 2006 by a group of designers who saw the need for a design-focused entertainment production company unlike any other already operating in the Asia-Pacific region. Later that year, the company commenced trading and opened its office in Sydney, Australia with four full time staff servicing events ranging from corporate meetings to theatre tours and dance parties.

In its first year of operation, Mandylights quickly became known for its outstanding design concepts which were always underpinned with the highest level of practicality. Not only was the company designing a wide range of projects; it was also sourcing and supplying equipment, providing crew and working at a senior level with directors and other designers to produce the overall visual look of many events.

As the company celebrated its second birthday in 2008, touring staff were lighting directors on projects including the musical Cats in China while also designing a new production in South Korea. In Europe Mandylights was following chefs Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver on tours, and corporate events were designed and produced in Spain, the USA, UK, China and Singapore. With over half the company’s operations dedicated to international projects, Mandylights became a truly global design company; one of the initial goals of the business when it was started.

More recently, Mandylights has actively pursued and promoted the concept of entire production technical design, with the company’s designers regularly creating event solutions that encompass all manner of staging, lighting, video, audio, rigging / automation and any other available technologies. We introduced combined lighting and video operators to the world famous Sydney Mardi Gras Parties – one of the largest dance party events in the world – and at the other end of the spectrum, helped several large pentecostal churches integrate video content into their productions. Always keen to push the boundaries of production, Mandylights’ visual designs have always gone beyond simple screens and rigs of moving lights.

Five years on, Mandylights has recently secured a fantastic new warehouse, studio and office complex in Camperdown, five minutes from Sydney’s central business district. The future is bright…
