Mandylights

With all of Mandylights’ staff starting their careers in theatre, it’s no surprise that they love to light theatre projects. In recent years, the company has lit well over a hundred theatrical productions ranging from international touring shows through to regional (rep) productions all around Australia.

Lighting and Video Design

Creatively, Mandylights aims to be at the forefront of theatrical design trends; always learning and developing design techniques and proud to maintain a solid knowledge of all new emerging technologies – many of the company’s recent projects have seen media server, LED and intelligent fixture integration in both spectacular and subtle installations – and all designed and executed in house.

The Mandylights approach to theatre is a little different from many other designers in the way that our senior staff not only design, but also have a solid practical and technical knowledge of theatrical lighting production, allowing the company to completely staff any project with our in-house team. Mandylights can design, draft, program, visualise, create shop orders and oversee bump in; all without the help of external contractors or associates. With the entire design process completed in house, Mandylights is able to consolidate costs, maintain unrivalled levels of communication between members of the lighting department, and take complete responsibility for all areas of design. When the show opens, Mandylights’ lighting directors are responsible for both day-to-day operations and transferring touring productions between venues.

As associate designers for several productions, Mandylights is proud to have worked under some of the world’s most talented and respected lighting designers including David Hersey and Nigel Levings; as a young design firm, it’s always inspirational to work under such respected industry legends. It’s also allowed the company’s staff to use their talents to ensure that the original designs and artistic integrity of the original designer’s work stays in place as productions tour.

Visualisation

In addition to this wealth of creative experience, the Mandylights visualisation system is easily the most powerful lighting and video system in Australia, and one of only a handful of such systems outside the USA. Using a powerful mix of CAD, dedicated visualisation software and our own plugins, dozens of professional productions have taken advantage of its ability to produce stunning, real time renders, simulate advanced automation and scenic movements and much, much more. All of this is housed in a dedicated studio in the Mandylights offices, with the ability to tour most of the system anywhere if required.

With projects in Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, South Africa, the UK, USA, Germany and touring shows that have passed through Singapore, Thailand, China, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau and dozens more centres, our experience in creating memorable theatrical experiences has already been seen by hundreds of thousands of audience members.
