Mandylights was contracted by Vector Limited to design, install, program and maintain the spectacular Vector Lights project; an expansive architectural lighting design across Auckland’s Harbour Bridge. As part of a ten-year smart energy partnership between Vector Limited and Auckland Council, the project marked the first collaborative installation designed to create a spectacular lighting system that would be entirely powered by renewable energy.

Commencing work in 2016, Mandylights won an extensive tendering process with a unique, all LED design that would see the bridge completely transformed with lights to highlight the spectacular architecture above and below the road deck. Following months of consultation with roadways bodies, local and federal government and other stakeholders, the five month installation process began, with a team of up to twenty technicians working day and night to install around 90,000 controllable LED pixels.

Mandylights delivered the entire system, including an intelligent control and maintenance system that allows for remote content upload, programming and monitoring from anywhere in the world. The bridge’s lighting operates every night, and Mandylights provides programming services for special event lighting periods, such as for Chinese New Year, Waitangi Day and the Pride Festival weeks.

Following a grand switching on ceremony on January 27, 2018, the Vector Lights fast redefined the city’s centre of illumination and enjoyed a huge positive public response.
